Fighting menstrual poverty: Sangira students receive menstrual cups

Poverty related to menstruation is a barrier to women’s access to education around the world. Many schoolgirls cannot afford menstrual products such as sanitary pads or tampons and therefore miss school during their periods. This has a direct impact on their educational opportunities and reinforces existing inequalities.

To address menstrual poverty at Sangira, menstrual cups were introduced to provide a sustainable alternative and allow students to fully participate in school life. Students were provided with cups in different sizes and attended a workshop to learn how to use the cups safely and effectively. The initiative was greatly appreciated by the girls at Sangira.
